Wow, we had a spectacular turn-out for the Joya De
Nicaragua Antaño 
tasting. Everyone had a great time and Fabian from Drew Estates was
very informative. Thanks to Shawna and Jessica for being our event hostesses
and to Derick, Amber and Matt for making sure everyone was well taken care of.

Our
next tasting will be on April 17 from 5-9 pm and we will be enjoying 
the latest release from Alec Bradley called the Tempus. This cigar
scored a 94 in Cigar Insider and is a Cigar Aficionado Top 25 cigar for 2008.
The cigar is dark and attractive and has an effortless draw. It produces a rich
semi-sweet smoke with hints of wood and nuts. This cigar is medium to
medium-full bodied and has a big delicious flavor. Everyone who attends will
get a free cigar ‘clipped and lit’. Event cigar special: Buy 4 cigars, get 1
free! Also, purchase a box and receive 10 family blend cigars free. The family
blend is a new cigar from Alec Bradley that is scheduled to be released on
Father’s Day.
April
1st Tobacco Tax Increase
The
Federal Excise tax increase went into effect on April 1, 2009. This is a result
of the passage of SCHIP (States Children’s Health Insurance Program). Federal
taxes on large cigars were increased to $0.4026 (dollar cap) per cigar. This
increase is in addition to the California excise tax of 45.13% and the Sales
tax increase of 1% (bringing the Sales Tax rate to 9.25% for Casa Belicoso).
After careful consideration, I have decided not to increase our prices at this
time. This increase in cost could not come at a more difficult time given the
state of our economy. While I will hold prices for now, there will come a time
when prices will increase. I want to thank all of you for supporting Casa
Belicoso and would like to invite non-members to come in and enjoy the lounge
for free on Monday April 6th with the purchase of any $15 (or
greater) cigar.
